After three years of sold-out shows, the MARATHON festival is firmly established as the not-to-be-missed fall event for the best of the Canadian independent scene. An ecstatic start is in sight for the first evening, which kicks off at Les Foufounes Électriques with the hypnagogic synthpop of KROY, the jazzy queer indie rock of Fleece, the dreamy pop rock of duo Vox Rea and the bold soul roots of Soleil Launière, recent winner of the Francouvertes 2024. This will be followed at Quai des Brumes by a DJ set from French electro-pop singer Cléa Vincent.
The following day, French rapper Ziak pays a visit to the metropolis at a promising high-energy MTELUS. Renowned for his dark, introspective, drill-influenced rap, razor-sharp flow and brutal lyrics, Ziak’s reputation is second to none.
At the same time, Théâtre Fairmount will host the Montreal launching party of indie-pop duo Bibi Club, who recently released their second album, Feu de Garde. The evening will open with the groovy pop sounds of new Montreal band En Stéréo.
On Friday evening, Club Soda will host three pop and RnB projects. Taking to the stage are Claudia Bouvette, for whom pop holds almost no secrets, and who will plunge the crowd back into nostalgic sounds with her recent track Call me Back!; Naomi, with her charismatic, rhythmic RnB; and myst milano., with her fluid electro-pop influenced by 90s hip-hop and house.
At MTELUS, P’tit Belliveau will keep the crowd enthralled with his abundant country-pop at the launch of his most recent homonymous opus, with opening act indie-rock band Malaimé Soleil.
At the end of the evening, the thirst-quenching pop of Junes and the effervescent RnB of Shay Lia, a Montreal artist we’ve come to know alongside Kaytranada, will take over the Ausgang Plaza stage.
To close the festival, Peter Peter will immerse Club Soda in a danceable, poetic electro-pop experience for the premiere of his recent album Éther. Opening the evening is Laurence-Anne, a true architect of haunting melodies and multiple sonic textures.
Karkwa will take to the MTELUS stage for the final date of his Dans la seconde tour, surrounded by guests to be announced later.
Finally, after being part of the 2023 cohort of the Official Selection of M for Montreal, Elliot Maginot and Belle Grande Fille will share the stage at the Beanfield Theatre for an evening of soft, poignant folk and pop.
