M for Montreal is excited to return to Wales as part of their UK showcase tour.
After passing through Edinburgh for Wide Days and in Liverpool for Liverpool Sound City, we are heading to Wales to take part in the 2023 edition of FOCUS Wales which will be held from May 4 to 6.
This is an international music showcase festival featuring the finest of emerging talent Wales has to offer, alongside a selection of the best new artists from around the world. This year’s FOCUS Wales will be the 12th edition of the festival and will welcome over 20,000 people to the town of Wrexham.
More than 250 artists will perform in a variety of spaces and venues during this event, including twenty stages located throughout the city. This varied program will allow us to discover new international talents, in addition to allowing our artists to showcase themselves in front of many European professionals. What better way to pursue our mission of promoting Canadian talent?
We are proud to announce the artists who will join us on the road as part of FOCUS Wales 2023. They will be performing on Thursday, May 4th, on the ground floor of Penny Black (Abbot St, Wrexham LL11 1TA).
For the occasion, a quartet of Montreal artists will be in the spotlight. First, you’ll get to hear the R&B-tinged soul of Hanorah and the lo-fi indie lined with bedroom pop of the trio Ivytide. This was followed by the timeless and sensitive soul of the Brazilian-Canadian artist Fernie, then the dream pop sprinkled with coldwave by Laurence-Anne.
Showcase schedule:
Hanorah (20:30)
Ivytide (21 :15)
Fernie (22 :00)
Laurence-Anne (22 :45)
We happily invite you to our cocktail event // OYSTERS & BUBBLES AT PENNY BLACK on Thursday, May 4 from 8 p.m. Come and taste good oysters in a unique setting (you’ll be the judge!) while talking with Canadian industry professionals ahead of our official showcase. Free champagne will also be offered on-site.
If you come to our cocktail party, you can say to your new Welsh friends “roedd yn braf siarad â chi”, which means “it was nice to talk to you.” It’s never too late to learn a Celtic language!
The artists in the official showcase in Wrexham will also be performing at various venues around the city alongside the main showcases of Thursday 4 May at Penny Black.
