M for Montreal at BreakOut West Festival 2025

In keeping with its On The Road missions, the M for Montreal team will once again take part in the BreakOut West festival, which will be held in Winnipeg from September 24 to 28. Among other things, M for Montreal will showcase talented Quebec artists such as Geneviève Racette and Sudden Waves. These showcases will be preceded by a reception on Saturday, September 27 at the Pyramid Cabaret, for our colleagues from Western Canada, a region rich in musical diversity.

M FOR MONTREAL SHOWCASES – PROGRAMMING:

GENEVIÈVE RACETTE

Montreal-based singer-songwriter, acclaimed folk-pop-americana artist, Geneviève Racette has performed and recorded with City and Colour while building a dedicated following across the United States. On her new album, Golden, she uses her ethereal voice and vulnerable songwriting to explore universal themes of grief, sobriety, social anxiety, and personal growth. Her music’s gentle power resonates deeply with listeners, while sharing stories from a woman in her thirties with heartfelt honesty.

SUDDEN WAVES

Bringing a unique blend of hardcore, pop-punk, and metal, the Montreal-based band Sudden Waves quickly made a name for themselves with their explosive debut, Meet Me Halfway. Known for their raw energy and intense riffs, they’ve gone on to play alongside big names like Emmure, Polaris, and Counterparts. Their festival appearances include performances at both Festival d’Été de Québec and Montebello Rockfest. Since joining Hell for Breakfast in 2020, the group has continued to build their catalog with powerful releases like We’re All Connected (2021) and COURTSIDE // SHOWDOWN (2022).

ABOUT BREAKOUT WEST

Originally founded to represent Western Canada’s music industry, BreakOut West began as All Indie Weekend in Manitoba, Alberta, and Saskatchewan to promote independent music. The organization evolved into the Prairie Music Alliance Inc. and then the Western Canadian Music Alliance Inc. (WCMA), adding British Columbia and the Yukon before finally creating the festival known today. Over five days, the event showcases more than 50 artists and features 74 Canadian speakers and mentors from 15 countries, with the location rotating each year.
