Artist Lab: The Complete Program is Available! 

Montreal, October 25th 2022   

Calling all artists! Join us on Friday, November 18th at 10:00 for an exchange of knowledge on topics essential to the development of a professional music career. After a successful first edition, the popular Artist Lab is back! M for Montreal and Mundial Montréal are once again collaborating on the organization of this event co-presented by TuneCore and QUB musique!  

The Artist Lab offers a complete program, consisting of a series of workshops and conferences aimed directly at artists, as well as  exclusive access to 1-1 meetings with key players in the industry. Topics such as financial aid, music production and distribution, promotion and dissemination strategies, royalties and relationship building will be discussed during the various activities.

Please note that the event is 100% free and open to all artists. Workshop registration is required to participate. Space is limited. Registration is not required to attend the lectures or to visit the booths.

An informative conference on the funding opportunities offered to Montréal-based artists by Conseil des arts de Montréal. The conference will be held mainly in French, although both speakers speak English and Mariza Rosales Argonza will also speak in Spanish. 

CMRRA Presents: Mechanical Royalties and How to Collect them

For most musicians, mechanical royalties can seem like an impenetrable mystery. Since these royalties are the most important source of income for songwriters and publishers, this conversation is designed to inform artists about how to collect them. Members of the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency (CMRRA) will also present their role in the industry. Daniel Lafrance, CEO of Quebec-based publisher Editorial Avenue, will also explain how he operates in this space as a publisher. 

Cooking Beats with SOCAN

Always popular at various music conferences, this panel presents the deconstruction of a song by revealing the iteration process and how it evolved from the writing room to the studio, to the listener’s ears.

Sarah Wilson and Alysha Brilla from TuneCore, a leading global music distributor, will offer useful advice throughout the panel. A few artists and industry leaders will also be on hand to share their stories and answer questions from attendees. Whether it’s questions about playlists, data, audience engagement or internal management; experienced panelists will share industry best practices at this conference.

How to release your music in the digital space with InTempo

Detailed responses will be provided to questions regarding music distribution on digital streaming platforms, distribution, referencing and strategies. This discussion will also allow for a discussion on best practices for upcoming album releases by participating artists. 

Community, Care and Communication: ethics in the music industry with Lotus Collective

This workshop will focus on three important aspects of sustainable community building within the music industry; navigating personal relationships with care, establishing clear communication for healthy relations and understanding proper ethics in co-creative settings. 

Conquering playlists and get your music heard: new methods by Groover

With 80 000 new songs being released on Spotify each day, it has become nearly impossible for independent artists to stand out from the crowd and reach virality. Although getting your music heard through playlisting is not a new topic, the methods that help artists to reach playlists are often gatekept. Groover will help share their knowledge on playlists that can be transferred to upcoming projects during this workshop. 

A Conversation on Climate Emergency with Music Declares Emergency

This workshop serves the purpose of continuing the conversation regarding the challenges around the climate emergency faced within industry. Artists will have the opportunity to share their experiences and discuss more healthy and sustainable ways to tour and interact with fans.
